The Innovative Environmental Solutions Competition is a Kingdom-wide competition which aims to promote environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources.
The Innovative Environmental Solutions Competition is a Sadara initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources (MIM), the Royal Commission for Jubail & Yanbu (RCJY), the National Center for Environmental Compliance, King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and the United Nations Global Compact.
The competition aims to support and encourage individuals from all sectors to develop innovative ideas and projects that promote environmental protection and the conservation of natural resources.
2025 Edition:
In this year's 2025 edition, the competition will continue having a strong emphasis on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Saudi Vision 2030, while also focusing on environmental sustainability and resource conservation.

Competition Objectives
Objective 1
Natural Resources: Saving water and energy or advancing renewable energy solutions.
Objective 2
Pollution and Waste: Reducing, reusing, recycling, recovering, and eliminating negative impacts.
Objective 3
Encouraging individual and collective environmental action, including volunteerism and community-driven initiatives.
Objective 4
Raising public awareness on environmental challenges and the importance of sustainability.
Objective 5
Inspiring active engagement in addressing current and future environmental issues.
Competition Criteria
Participation is open for individuals, groups, students, universities, scientific researchers and civil society organizations in Saudi Arabia.
Applicant(s) must be 16 years old or older.
Applicant(s) must be residents of Saudi Arabia.
Sadara employees and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.
Entries must focus on solving environmental challenges or raising awareness on topics like energy and water conservation.
Entries must be driven by and aligned with at least one of the areas specified below:

Project category
The project should be practical, applicable, and environmentally relevant.
The idea must be innovative, creative, and original, while respecting intellectual property rights.
The submission should either include pilot applicability proof or a detailed feasibility study.

Visuals (images, illustrations, and graphics encouraged).

Video category
The video must convey a clear, impactful message.
The participant(s) must create the video independently (no third-party production).
The video must be high resolution with good audio quality.
Maximum duration: Two minutes.
An optional supporting two page MS Word document may be attached to explain objectives and key insights.

Previous Versions
Sadara launched the first edition of the Innovative Environmental Solutions Competition in 2018 in collaboration with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY) targeting the Jubail community only. In its second edition in 2019, the scope of the competition expanded to target all parts of the Kingdom, witnessing a greater turnout over the past years.
Development of a Multifunctional Membrane for Treating Polluted Industrial Water
Project Scope:
Through the development of a multifunctional membrane with a high capacity to purify and treat polluted industrial water efficiently and effectively, this project aims to support the following United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, Goal 13: Climate Action, and Goal 15: Life on Land. This initiative contributes to Saudi Vision 2030 by reducing pollution of all kinds.
